Child Studies, MA program (120 ECTS credits) distance learning

In the master's program in Child Studies, students will learn to understand the diversity of children’s lives in different times and places, and gain insight into the ways that childhood and adolescence are rendered meaningful in various historical and cultural contexts.
An overview of the interdisciplinary field of child studies gives students an understanding of the differences between various theories of childhood, and their implications for images of children and childhood. Students will also learn to recognize and critically scrutinize, analyse and discuss political, cultural and scientific statements and assertions about children and childhood.
Students will also carry out a research study. In collaboration with an individually appointed advisor, they will frame a research question and design an empirically based research study. They will learn to recognize the differences between various research methods, and gain proficiency in one of them by collecting and analysing data for a study.
The master’s program in Child Studies involves two years of full-time studies. It is an on-line distance learning program, which means that the program can be studied from anywhere in the world. Students in this program live in many different countries and on-line discussions are international and inspiring. The teaching staff are mainly researchers at the Department of Child Studies which gives students access to frontline research in a range of disciplines. The limited number of places guarantees a high student-teacher ratio.
The program prepares students for postgraduate studies in child studies and related fields. Students will also be qualified to work with issues related to children and adolescents in governmental and non-governmental, local and international organisations.
This is an on-line program, so students must be familiar with and have continuous access to both e-mail and the internet.
The program requires excellent English language skills.
