Theory Sex: Transgenres, Affects, and Ontological Queerings
This is the newest of the three strands and is still in the process of formation, the network is still under construction.
• THEORY SEX
The first part of this is derived from Weinstein's recent work reconceptualizing feminist philosophical “Sex Difference Theory,” (see Introduction: Part II in Deleuze and Gender and Weinstein, Jami. 2010. “A Requiem to Sexual Difference: A Response to Luciana Parisi's ‘Event and Evolution’”. The Southern Journal of Philosophy 48: 165-187. See also Weinstein's recent seminar (with Myra Hird) organized by the Finnish Research School in Women’s and Gender Studies around this theme called: Theory Sex Matters.
Another part is derived from Weinstein's work on queer and gender theory. “Transgenres and the Plane of Language, Species, and Evolution.” (Lambda Nordica Special Issue on Animals, 2011) and “Transgenres and the Plane of Gender Imperceptibility.” Undutiful Daughters: New Directions in Feminist Thought and Practice, edited by Henriette Gunkel, Chrysanthi Nigianni, and Fanny Söderbäck (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). Weinstein spoke about this at the FEMMSS4 conference at Pennsylvania State University.
And the newest element, affect, has been spawned from recent presentations Weinstein has given at the Affective Tendencies Conference co-sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies Department, Rutgers University and SKOK, University of Bergen, and the Between Bodies: Emotion, Sense, Affect Conference sponsored by GenNa at Uppsala. In addition, Weinstein is involved with a project currently in development at The University of Bergen (SKOK), called Affective Displacements. This substrand considers the inhuman affects and forces of which we are constituted.
• ONTOLOGICAL QUEERINGS
This facet of the strand aims to synthesize the other three. It takes as its point of departure the contemporary queer theoretical anti-identity politics stance and the move toward imperceptibility.
The first project derived from this strand will be to construct a network of national and international scholars and apply for a small network grant.
