Methodologies, Travelling Theories, Translations: Nordic and European Feminist Research Training

Date:
September 10-11, 2007

Venue:
Åbo Akademi University, Åbo (Turku), Finland

Description:
The conference is arranged by Nordic Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies
in collaboration with Department of Women’s Studies, Åbo Akademi
University, and funded by NordForsk, NIIK and Åbo Akademi.

Conference committee:
Prof. Nina Lykke, Linköping University, Sweden, Director of Research
School
Prof. Harriet Silius, Åbo Akademi University, Finland, Board Member of
Research School
Prof. Anne-Jorunn Berg, Bodø Unversity College, Norway, Board Member of Research School
Dr. Solveig Bergman, NIKK, Nordic Institute of Women’ Studies and Gender Research, Chair of Research School Board
Dr. Mette Bryld, Academic Coordinator of Nordic Research School.

The conference will gather junior and senior scholars from the 40
Nordic, Baltic and NW-Russian partner universities of the Nordic
Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies and others
interested researchers and doctoral students.

With a special focus on methodologies, travelling feminist theories and
translations between different national and disciplinary contexts, the
conference will analyse and assess actual and potential effects of PhD
training programmes in Women’s/Gender/Feminist Studies. A particular focus will be the work of the Nordic Research School in
Interdisciplinary Gender Studies. Moreover, the conference will give
attention to relations between feminist PhD training in the
Nordic-Baltic-NW Russian region and the broader European arena. It will provide a forum for discussions of joint curriculum development and collaborative relations with European feminist networks such as Athena (Advanced thematic network in European Women’s Studies) and AOIFE (Association of Institutions of Feminist Education and Research in Europe).

Travel, accommodation and food will be paid for 2 representatives (eg. 1 teacher and 1 PhD student) per partner university and for invited speakers and panelists.
Other participants are welcome on a self paying basis (there is no registration fee), and they may also apply for travel grants
(please mail to mbry@galnet.dk why you need a travel grant).

We urge participants who have the possibility to obtain travel money
from their home institution to do so - this will help us to support
participation of PhD students and senior researchers from countries and institutions where there are no such possibilities.

To register for the conference, e-mail your name, title and affiliation
to Academic Coordinator Mette Bryld (mbry@galnet.dk) before
July 1, 2007.
