PhD project

I study the development of regional sustainable transport systems and how energy issues, such as energy efficiency and fossil fuel independence, are handled in these processes. I am interested in how the traditionally separated policy areas transport and energy may become integrated or stay separated in these processes. The development of the transport system involves several elements and actors, which leads to planning through networks between both public and private actors. I am interested in how the different actors perceive the sustainable transport system, how they act in relation to each other and what possibilities they have to influence the process of development. What is also interesting for my study is what role the networks play in the planning and decision-making. Regions in Sweden are interesting to study since questions regarding future development to a high extent have become regional; by national directives or by local will. The development of a regional sustainable transport system is dependent on decisions on the national and international level as well, why I study how these influence the regional processes too.
